University of Rajasthan, oldest institution of higher learning in Rajasthan, was established on 8th January, 1947. Earlier named University of Rajputana, University of Rajasthan comes into existance with the main objective of disseminating knowledge and catering to the needs of the students of Rajasthan. In 1956, the Rajputana University was renamed as the University of Rajasthan.It attracts students from all over Rajasthan and other parts of India and abroad.University of Rajasthan is a multi-faculty University and is recognized under 2f and 12B of U.G.C since its inception.
The University has 36 Post Graduate Departments, 15 recognized Research Centers ,6 Constituent Colleges and 500 Affiliated Colleges spanning 6 districts. The location of the University is Urban and its Central Campus is spread over 285.50 acres and the satellite campus, comprising the Constituent Colleges, is spread over 149.53 acres.
The University also provides opportunities to the deserving students and teachers to undertake research in the fields of their specialization. For this purpose, Research Centers were established. These research centers have strengthened research, and some of them offer M. Phil Programmes of study. The following Centers are in existence:

Admission of Non-Collegiate Candidates: A candidate passing the First Year/Second Year/ Part I/ Part II Examination of a course of study as a non-collegiate candidate (wherever permitted) shall not be eligible for admission to the next higher class in a college. However, a candidate passing the previous examination of a course of study as a non-collegiate candidate may be considered for admission to the next higher class of the same course of study if seats are available, provided
(i) A candidate who secures a minimum of 50% marks in the case of Faculties of Arts, Fine Arts and Social Sciences, and 55% marks in the case of Faculties of Science and Commerce in the aggregate at the First Year /Part I Examination of the University or an examination recognised by the University as equivalent thereto shall be eligible for admission as a regular student to the next higher class of the same course of study.
(ii) A candidate who has passed the First Year/Part I Examination as a regular student and the Second Year/Part II Examination as a non-collegiate candidate shall also be eligible to take admission to the Final Year/Part III class of the same course as a regular student if he/she has obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate at the Second Year/Part II Examination.
Admission to the PG Departments of the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur shall be made on the basis of Entrance Test and Academic Merit of Qualifying Examination. The final merit of a candidate out of 100 shall be calculated by giving a weightage of 70 i.e. marks obtained in the Entrance Test and a weightage of 30 to the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
